Singleton Town Band
by Singleton Town Band, posted 2014-05-28

Idea Description:

The land our hall stands on was bought with money won in lotto. In 1935 a group of band members got together and purchased a ticket - they won! The hall itself was built with volunteer labour and was opened in 1937. A hall of this age requires constant maintenance. We are currently working on replacing a boundary fence and renovating the kitchen.

Community Benefits:

Our band is well known in the Singleton community. It would not be ANZAC Day, Australia Day or the Singleton Show without the Singleton Town Band. We play at many other functions throughout the year, including fetes, openings and celebrations. Our members are aged from 10 to "over 65". We believe we are the oldest continually operating community band in the country.

Comments

The Singleton Town Band contribute so much to their community in so many ways. ANZAC day without the band marching in the parade would seem flat and almost every weekend the band are playing at community events. The band hall is a community treasure that needs sprucing up to make it an agreeable place for the young people in particular who are such an important part of the band. clarinetman - 8:27am, 13-06-2014
